Biography of Gabby Chaves

Born into a family full of racers, his mother, uncle and grandfather, it is no wonder Gabby Chaves has shown talents in the world of auto sports. Born July 7, 1993 Chaves starting racing in go-karts at age 11 and now at the age of 16 has accomplished more than he could have ever imagined. In 2005 he placed fourth out of 72 in the World Karting Final in his age group. In 2006, Chaves won the four most prestigious karting championships in the USA.

At age 13 Chaves was accepted into the Skip Barber Racing School. In the 2007/2008 Southern Series Chaves went undefeated through 11 races. Soon after Chaves would make the move to the formula racing circuit where he would continue to collect accolades.

The United States Tennis Association at one time ranked Chaves one of the top young tennis players and he still practices tennis regularly. Chaves is also an honor student.

Hobbies: Sports/fitness (Track and Field), my dogs (teaching them tricks and playing with them), video games (Gran Turismo, Formula 1, Call of Duty), working on my street car (ECU tuning and parts upgrades), dance and Spanish music (Shakira)

Racing goal: To be an IndyCar Champion and Indy 500 Winner

My fitness routine includes: Triathlon and strength training; running with my dog

Any pre-race rituals or superstitions: Meditation

The one talent I wish I had: Singing

An interesting note about me: I am a big believer in animal rights, and I like to live my life one day at a time.

2013: Finished second in the Indy Lights Championship with one win, 10 podium finishes and one pole from the 12-race season.

2012: Finished second in the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires (formerly Star Mazda) as a rookie with two wins, 10 podium finishes and two poles ... selected to join the FIA Young Driver Excellence Academy.

2011: Competed in the GP3 Series in Europe.

2010: Earned Rookie of the Year honors and finished 10th in the Italian Formula 3 Championship.

2009: Won the Formula BMW Americas Championship with five wins and 14 podiums from 14 races.

2008: Won the Skip Barber Racing Southern Regional Series championship ... also finished fourth in the Formula BMW Pacific Championship with one win and three additional podium finishes.

2007: Finished second in the Skip Barber Racing Eastern Regional Series.

Belardi Auto Racing

Belardi Auto Racing is owned by Brian Belardi, a former collegiate football player who has focused his competitive juices into auto racing.  Located  near Indianapolis, the Belardi team campaigns cars in the Indy Lights and USF2000 National Championship in support of the Mazda Road to Indy development ladder system.

Belardi is a tough competitor. A former defensive back at the University of Colorado, he had his eyes set on a NFL career before being sidelined with injuries, Belardi understands what it takes to compete at the highest levels of sports.  As a former driver, Belardi also understands the specific needs of racer that is in pursuit of a championship.
