Joey started racing go karts in 2011 at the Jim Hall Kart Racing School in Southern California. Then moved to racing in regional events in 2012, racing with PSL SoCal CRG Kart team and winning the Los Angeles Karting Championship (LAKC) Dominic Dobson award for Rookie of the Year / Most Improved Driver.
Joey's first experience in open wheel cars came in late 2012 at the Allen Berg Racing School in Fontana, California.
In 2013 Joey began racing Formula F1600 in the Pacific Formula F1600 Championship Series with PR1 Motorsports This highly competitive series offers the premier junior development category in open wheel competition.
In September 2013, Joey was selected, along with Jake Eidson, as a Team USA Scholarship winner and with that honor represented Team USA in competition at the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch and the Walter Hayes Cup at Silverstone Raceway, England.
In late 2013, Joey won the West Coast National Auto Sport Association (NASA) Teen Mazda Challenge and went on to win the 2013 Mazda Club Racer Shootout and the prize of a season fully funded by Mazda Motorsports in the SCCA Pro Racing Mazda MX-5 Cup series.
In August 2014, Joey made his debut in the Pro Mazda Championship series, driving for World Speed Motorsports.
