Mike Conway will miss at least three months of the IZOD IndyCar Series season after having surgery the evening of May 30 to repair fractures to his lower left leg suffered in the white flag lap crash in the Indianapolis 500 earlier in the day.

Indy Racing League Director of Medical Services Dr. Michael Olinger said Conway, of England, also has a soft tissue injury to his lower left leg and he is expected to have another surgical procedure later this week. Additionally, Conway has a compression fracture of one of his thoracic vertebrae and is being fitted for a back brace, which he will wear for three months.

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing teammate Justin Wilson visited Conway at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis before the Indianapolis 500 Victory Celebration.

"He's doing really well," said Wilson, who finished seventh in the '500' in the No. 22 Z-Line Designs car. "I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. He sat up in bed and was chatting away and joking around. Obviously, it will take a little time for his leg to heal, but I think he'll make a pretty quick recovery."

Ryan Hunter-Reay, also was involved in the crash, had successful surgery May 31 on his left thumb and was fitted with a carbon fiber splint, which should allow him to participate at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend in the No. 37 IZOD entry for Andretti Autosport.

Hunter-Reay's injury was suffered during a pit lane incident earlier in the race.

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing has not announced who would replace Conway in the No. 24 Dad's Root Beer car. Tomas Scheckter, a former winner on the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway oval, and Ana Beatriz also competed for the Indianapolis-based team in the Indy 500.
